MdM mobilizes this collective expertise to implement impactful health projects, always prioritizing strong, collaborative relationships with the communities it serves.

MdM in Tanzania

MdM has been active in Tanzania since 1992, beginning with HIV/AIDS development projects and community health initiatives. In 2010, MdM shifted to harm reduction services for people who use drugs, launching the first comprehensive harm reduction program in Temeke, Dar es Salaam that significantly reduced HIV and other infectious diseases among people who inject drugs.

By 2021, Médecins du Monde (MdM) served as a technical partner to expand harm reduction programs locally and in neighboring countries. In 2022, MdM began providing sexual and reproductive health services for adolescents and vulnerable groups in urban and rural areas, partnering with local organizations and health facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Accountancy & Compliance

  • Utilize accounting software (SAGA) to compile and manage all financial transactions efficiently.
  • Verify and enforce accurate allocation of financial transactions in accordance with MDM chart of accounts.
  • Manage a comprehensive archiving system for accounting documents.

Financial Management

  • Manage cash flow effectively to ensure adequate liquidity for organizational operations.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for authorities.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations (VAT, income tax, withholding taxes).

Partnership Support

  • Provide capacity building to local partners.
  • Integrate and archive local partners’ accountancy in SAGA.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with INGOs.
  • Fluent in English and Swahili (Reading & Writing).

Skills

  • Proficiency in accounting software (Sage, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Tanzania’s financial laws and regulations.
