Job Summary

The Legal Counsel is responsible for providing legal services to NBC Bank, including transactional support, litigation management, contract management, and risk mitigation. This role involves close collaboration with business units to deliver pragmatic legal advice aligned with commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Legal Risk Management (50%): Implement risk frameworks, review legislation, manage contracts, and oversee external legal resources.
  • Compliance & Risk Control (5%): Ensure adherence to regulatory and internal policies.
  • Management & Financial Information (5%): Monitor legal budgets and performance metrics.
  • Service Management (30%): Develop litigation strategies, standardize templates, and resolve business queries.
  • Team Leadership (10%): Train staff on legal risks and foster a values-driven culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Advocate of the High Court of Tanzania.
  • 8+ years of post-qualification experience in banking/finance legal roles.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in English and knowledge of Tanzanian banking laws.
