Purpose

The main role of this position is to cover news events, write and submit factual and balanced stories for publication within set deadlines, do analyses, mentor correspondents and reporters, handle and give input to special reports.

Main Responsibilities

  • Developing reports and writing news and feature stories for the assigned title in finished form.
  • Attending assigned news functions, taking notes, conducting interviews, and verifying facts.
  • Ensuring adherence to MCL’s editorial policy, house style, and ethical journalism standards.
  • Researching and providing background information for complete copy.
  • Briefing the News Editor and meeting 100% of set deadlines.
  • Building and maintaining news contacts for exclusive reports.
  • Collaborating with photographers for visual content support.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Academic: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism/Mass Communication or equivalent.
  • Experience: 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional accreditation from the Journalist Accreditation Board.
